Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Is it getting harder to read small print? Does your back hurt after heavy lifting? Well then… I have just the game for you. Snake Oil is a fantastic party game that takes the Apples to Apples theme to the next level. Here’s how it works. Like Apples to Apples, each player is dealt a hand of cards that contain various nouns. Each player takes it in turn to act as one of the multitude of varied customers provided in the game. The remaining players then create a product by combining two of the cards in their hand. They each then have 30 seconds to give their best pitch… which, unlike Apples to Apples, cleverly forces players to defend their proposal. The product combinations can be hilarious, and they will have you in tears as you try to sell a Meat Wig to a Caveman, Nest Cream to a Tree Hugger or an Elephant Cannon to a Castaway. I love this game, and at this point would recommend it over Apples to Apples.
If this sounds appealing, keep your eye out for similar games coming later this year. Funemployed places you in the shoes of a horribly unqualified individual looking to land a job, and But Wait, There’s More (like Snake Oil) has players trying to sell common objects by ratcheting on increasingly absurd features.
Pros: Laugh Out Loud Fun, Simple, A Better Apples to Apples
Cons: Some May Not Enjoy the On-The-Spot Sales Pitch
